Network consulting
San Diego Padres, May 2000-July 2001

Network infrastructure, construction, architectural drafting, jobs estimation and consulting during build-out of the Padre's Ballpark Advanced Technology Lab (BAT Lab). The Lab was built in downtown San Diego in order to test integrated systems such as ticketing, wireless gaming, smartcards, CMS, etc. that will potentially be used in the new downtown Ballpark and surrounding 26 block redevelopment district.

Webmaster/Production Manager/IT
Yride.com,  Jan 2000-Jan 31st 2001

Startup Web portal for action sports and music. Featured athletes and bands that include Laird Hamilton, Colin McKay, Mike Escamilla, Bruce and Andy Irons and Blink-182. In four months (with no marketing budget), site reached 20,000 registered users, 50,000+ unique visitors and 400,000+ impressions per month. Duties and milestones included:

  • Managed content production team, responsible for weekly publication of video, text, and graphics to the web
  • Writing all HTML and JS, primarily by hand, and site management using Dreamweaver, telnet and FTP
  • Providing technical expertise and advice to assist company founders
  • Launched new community features for site, including Webmail, threaded discussion groups and centralized user database
  • Built and maintained office LAN and DSL connection, managed company email accounts and domain hosting, supervising outside telephony contractors and providing hardware/software tech support in a cross-platform environment

Worked on a variety of custom residential and commercial projects in San Diego, Orange and LA counties. Started as a day laborer, progressing to journeyman carpenter within 4 years. Also gained working knowledge of steel frame construction concrete, drywall, roofing, and stucco, as well as a variety of alternative building practices.
